A The Agency Roundups

Best Ecommerce SEO Agencies

A researched, honest look at the UK agencies that actually specialise in ecommerce SEO, what each one is genuinely good at, and what to weigh up before you sign.

Before the list

Before the list, the obvious disclosure, I do ecommerce SEO myself, so take that into account. But I'd rather you make a genuinely informed choice than just pick me by default. I work directly with every client, no account managers, no work quietly handed to a junior. If that's what you want, see what that looks like below. If a bigger team is the better fit for your store, the agencies below are all legitimate options, and I've tried to be fair about what each one actually offers.

Ecommerce SEO is a narrower specialism than most people expect. Category and collection pages, faceted navigation, duplicate content across thousands of near-identical product variants, and non-branded organic growth all make it a genuinely different discipline from general SEO. Not every agency that lists “ecommerce” as a service on their website has actually built a process around it, plenty are web design or full-service generalists who build Shopify stores and treat SEO as an afterthought.

Here’s an honest, researched look at four UK agencies that have.

1. NOVOS #

London, UK. Founded 2019, employee-owned, 40+ SEO professionals.

NOVOS was built exclusively around ecommerce from day one. In six years they’ve supported 200+ ecommerce brands, including Pooch & Mutt, Osprey, Antler, Vitabiotics, Bloom & Wild, and Made.com, and claim over £50M in organic growth generated for clients across the UK, US, and Europe. Their award haul is substantial too: Global eCommerce Agency of the Year 2023, plus recognition at the UK Search Awards, Global Search Awards, and The Drum Awards.

Genuinely good at: non-branded organic growth on category and collection pages specifically, one of the genuinely harder problems in ecommerce SEO, backed by real, named client results rather than vague claims.

Worth weighing up: a 200+ brand client roster built over six years suggests real scale and process, but also real competition for attention. Worth asking directly how many accounts your strategist is actually running at once.

2. Eastside Co #

London, UK, with offices in Birmingham, New York, and Hamburg. Founded 2012, 80-strong team.

Eastside Co is a Shopify Plus specialist covering design, development, SEO, PPC, paid social, CRO, and email under one roof, the largest team on this list by a clear margin. They’ve worked with recognisable names like Carex, Wild Deodorant, Absolute Collagen, and Chelsea FC.

Genuinely good at: scale and breadth. If you want SEO handled alongside a full Shopify Plus build or replatform, rather than as a bolt-on to work someone else did, this is a legitimate one-stop option.

Worth weighing up: SEO is one discipline among several for an 80-person, multi-office team built primarily around Shopify Plus design and development. Worth confirming SEO gets a dedicated specialist, not a generalist splitting time across design, dev, and marketing work.

3. MadeByShape #

Atherton, near Manchester. Founded 2010, team of 16.

MadeByShape is a smaller, boutique web design and branding agency with organic SEO as one of its core services alongside Shopify builds, working largely with fashion and lifestyle ecommerce brands. Fifteen years running as a small, stable team is a real signal in an industry where agencies come and go.

Genuinely good at: a genuinely collaborative, small-team relationship, no layers between you and the people doing the work, with real design sensibility for fashion and lifestyle brands specifically.

Worth weighing up: SEO sits alongside web design and branding rather than being the agency’s core reason for existing. Worth asking for ecommerce SEO results specifically, not just design portfolio work.

4. Futur Media #

Cardiff, Wales.

Futur Media is a Shopify-first agency covering design, custom development, SEO-safe migrations, CRO, and SEO, with most work happening remotely and, notably, direct access to the founder rather than an account manager layer.

Genuinely good at: SEO-safe Shopify migrations specifically, a real, common failure point where ecommerce sites lose rankings during a replatform, and direct founder access by design rather than as an exception.

Worth weighing up: less independently published detail on team size, founding date, and named ecommerce SEO case studies than the other names here. Worth asking directly for proof of organic results, not just migration and design work.

Questions to ask on the discovery call #

Run every agency on your shortlist through the same set of questions. The answers will tell you more than any homepage will.

1

Who specifically will work on my account? Day to day, not just who's on this call. Ask for the name and role of the person actually doing the work.

2

Can you show non-branded organic growth results? Not just a client logo or a Shopify build. Branded search you'd already rank for isn't proof of anything.

3

How do you approach category and collection pages differently from product pages? This is where most of the non-branded opportunity in ecommerce actually lives.

4

How do you handle faceted navigation and near-duplicate variants? Size, colour, and filter combinations can quietly create thousands of thin, duplicate pages if nobody's watching.

5

What does pricing actually look like once we're past this call? And what happens if scope changes, or you take on a replatform mid-contract.

6

How many other accounts is my day-to-day contact running? A specialist splitting time across a dozen stores isn't the same as one who's focused on a handful.

7

If we ever migrate or replatform, how do you protect rankings we already have? This is a real, common failure point. Ask for their process before you need it, not after traffic drops.

FAQ

Questions worth asking before you decide

What should I actually look for in an ecommerce SEO agency?

Real category and collection page experience, not just a Shopify build badge. Ask who specifically will work on your account, how they handle non-branded organic growth (not just protecting branded search you’d rank for anyway), and whether pricing is transparent before you’re deep into a sales conversation.

Is a bigger agency automatically a safer choice?

Not necessarily. A bigger team means more specialists to draw on, but also more hand-offs and less chance you’re speaking directly to whoever’s doing the actual work. What actually reduces risk is a track record you can verify, not headcount.

How does working with you compare to any of these?

The core disciplines overlap, technical SEO, content, and reporting. The difference is structure. I’m the strategist, the writer, and the implementer, on every account, with pricing that reflects the work rather than office and account-management overhead. See the MoverX ecommerce SEO case study for what that’s actually produced.

Prefer one person over an agency?

Same disciplines these agencies sell, applied directly by the person doing the work.
