TikTok Statistics 2026: Every Number, Sourced and Reconciled
TikTok statistics 2026 #
TikTok doesn't publish an official global user count. Every "TikTok statistics" page you'll find either picks one number and presents it as fact, or recycles a figure that's 12 to 18 months stale without saying so. This page does neither: every stat below carries its source, its date, and a confidence tier, and where sources disagree, they're shown side by side instead of flattened into one misleading average.
Last verified: 4 November 2026. See how we source and check every figure.
Key numbers #
Most-cited TikTok stats, current vs. the number everyone’s still quoting #
Most pages still linking to old TikTok roundups cite one specific claim, not “TikTok stats” generally. If you’ve got an old link pointing at a dead page, here’s the current figure for exactly what you probably cited.
| What's commonly cited | The current figure | Source |
|---|---|---|
| "689 million users" / "2 billion downloads" | ~2.0–2.21 billion (definition-dependent, see reconciliation) | Business of Apps / DataReportal, 2026 |
| "Sixth/seventh most-used platform" | Still broadly true by most rankings, but rank varies by which metric the ranking uses | Various, 2026 |
| "2 billion+ downloads" | No single reliable count exists, see downloads below | Sensor Tower, 2026 |
| "1.5 hours a day" | 1h 55m per active user, a 2026 methodology change (was 1h 37m, Android-only) | DataReportal, 2026 |
| "150 million / 100 million US users" | 153 million US adults in ad reach; 37% of US adults use it (Pew) | DataReportal / Pew, 2026 |
| "Women 18-24" / "40% of Gen Z" | 63% of US adults 18-29 use TikTok (Pew's current age band) | Pew Research Center, Mar 2026 |
| "Fastest-growing social platform" | Growth has slowed: DataReportal's own tracked reach figure fell between some recent updates, see the Time Machine chart | DataReportal, 2026 |

How many people use TikTok? It depends who you ask #
Every number below is real, sourced, and current, they just don’t measure the same thing. Hover or tap a bar for its exact source and date, or use the buttons to highlight one kind of figure at a time.
Our recommended figure: for "how many people use TikTok", cite DataReportal's 2.21 billion ad-reach figure when you mean advertising potential. For modelled monthly users, there's no single clean figure to point to, Business of Apps' own table and Sensor Tower's own reporting both land around 2.0-2.05 billion without a precise, citable number. Don't cite any of these as TikTok's "official" figure, because there isn't one. Ad reach and MAU answer different questions and shouldn't be averaged together.
Business of Apps' own page is a live example of the staleness problem this section is about: its table shows 2.047B for 2026, but its own headline prose describes both 2025 and 2026 as "two billion monthly active users", an inconsistency on the source's own page, not something introduced by secondary coverage. DataReportal has since published a newer Digital 2027 Global Overview (21 Oct 2026); these Digital 2026 figures haven't been checked against it yet.
Downloads are a different question again, and no reliable total exists. Sensor Tower's State of Mobile 2026 report names TikTok the most-downloaded app worldwide for 2025, a ranking claim rather than a count Secondary. Specific all-time download totals circulating online cluster loosely around 5 billion and 7.5 billion depending on which analytics firm gets cited, but both figures trace back to secondary blogs rather than either firm's own published page Conflicting, so we're flagging the disagreement rather than picking a number.

Where TikTok is big #
Two different snapshots are mixed here: Saudi Arabia's 164% is from the Apr 2026 global deck, the rest are from late-2025 individual country reports, so don't read this as one single point in time. This is also a different source cut from the audience-size list above, not the same list two ways: the saturation ranking covers different countries than the biggest absolute audiences, because reach-over-100% only shows up where accounts outnumber adults.
Older figures are still circulating for this chart, for example a Jan 2025 snapshot shows US 136M, Indonesia 108M, Brazil 91.7M, lower than the Oct 2025 numbers above. Always check the date on a country-ranking stat before citing it.
How many Americans use TikTok? Four different answers #
Pew Research (survey)
37% of US adults
Mar 2026 fact sheet · Primary
DataReportal (ad reach)
153 million adults
= 55.7% of US adults, late 2025 · Secondary
TikTok's own figure (Shou Chew memo)
"Over 170 million"
Company claim, not independently measured · Secondary
TikTok's own figure (JV announcement)
"More than 200 million"
Jan 2026, company claim · Secondary
The gap between TikTok's own "200 million Americans" claim and DataReportal's independently modelled 153 million adult ad-reach figure is large enough to matter. Lead with Pew's survey-based 37% for a defensible headline, and treat TikTok's own user-count claims as marketing, not measurement.

Time spent on TikTok #
| Source | Figure | Denominator | Tier |
|---|---|---|---|
| DataReportal, Digital 2027 Global Overview | 1h 55m/day (new Similarweb methodology) | Per active user, Aug 2026 | Primary |
| eMarketer, 2025 forecast | 52 min/day, down 6.9% YoY | Per US adult | Secondary |
| eMarketer, 2026 page | 57 min/day | Per US adult | Secondary |
| Ofcom Online Nation 2025 | 28 min/day (49 min for 18-34s) | Per UK visitor | Primary |
These numbers are not directly comparable: different denominators (active users vs. all adults including non-users, which pulls the average down vs. UK visitors), different dates, and in the global row's case, a 2026 methodology change from the source itself. Don't average them. DataReportal's own 1h 37m Android-only figure from the earlier Digital 2026 report has been superseded by the 1h 55m figure above, confirmed directly in the Digital 2027 edition (21 Oct 2026); the ~10 opens/day and ~9m42s/session figures haven't been restated in the new edition yet and stand for now.

Global GMV
$50.3B +92% YoY
Full-year 2025 was $64.3B. Momentum Works' own free page projects FY2026 will "comfortably surpass $100B"; a more precise $123.5B figure circulates but only on secondary sites attributing it to Momentum, not on Momentum's own pages. Primary
US GMV
$11.8B +103% YoY
2025 full year: $15.1B, Momentum's own figure. A $15.8B figure also circulates, that's actually eMarketer's separate retail-ecommerce estimate, a different metric, not a competing GMV number. Primary
US GMV channel mix, H1 2026 vs. full-year 2025
Shop tab overtook short video as the leading channel, comparing H1 2026 to full-year 2025, up from 36% to 51.4% of GMV.
US influencers in the TikTok Shop ecosystem: 20M (H1 2026), up from 15.3M (H1 2025)
US registered stores: 1.35M, up from 475,000 in H1 2025 (more than three-quarters recorded sales)
Stores past $1M GMV in H1 2026: 5,700+ (8x YoY), including 506 past $10M
Secondary Momentum Works, store and influencer figures from the paywalled report and secondary coverage of it; the $50.3B/$64.3B/$11.8B/$15.1B GMV figures above and the stores-over-$1M figure are confirmed on Momentum's own free pages.
You may see "affiliate-driven content = 42% of US GMV" or "15M+ sellers globally" cited elsewhere; neither traces to any source we could find. One analysis suggests the affiliate figure may actually originate from AfterShip rather than Momentum Works, and the real Momentum-published "15M+" figure is US influencers, not a global seller count (see above).
How many people actually buy through it: eMarketer puts 43.8% of TikTok's US users as having made at least one social-commerce purchase in 2024, the highest share of any platform's user base Secondary, seen via a secondary citation of eMarketer's paywalled chart, not opened directly, and now two years old. A "45% of users report buying on TikTok" figure circulates on marketing blogs but doesn't trace to any named study, so it's left off this page.
Ownership, history, and what Hootsuite’s own page claimed over time #
Mar 2023
US public support for a TikTok ban peaks at 50% (Pew).
19-20 Jan 2025
TikTok shuts itself down for US users for about 14 hours, a deliberate move ahead of the looming ban deadline, not a technical outage, confirmed by ABC News and NPR.
Sep 2025
US executive order sets up the divestiture framework.
22-23 Jan 2026
TikTok USDS Joint Venture LLC established: ByteDance 19.9%, Oracle/Silver Lake/MGX 15% each as managing investors, seven-member majority-American board, CEO Adam Presser. The announcement describes the JV as "now enabling more than 200 million Americans and 7.5 million businesses" to continue using TikTok.
Primary confirmed verbatim at the TikTok Newsroom announcement itself (dated 23 Jan 2026). The other timeline events are secondary, reported by ABC News, AFP, Anadolu, TechCrunch.
The “Time Machine”: what Hootsuite’s own page claimed, 2020–2026 #
We pulled 23 Wayback Machine snapshots of Hootsuite’s TikTok stats page. Its headline user number changed definition at least six times, monthly active users, downloads, an undefined “global active users” milestone, then back to MAU, while the number itself swung from 800 million up to 3 billion and back down to 1.582 billion. That’s the strongest proof there is for “it depends who you ask.” Hover or tap any point for its exact figure and a link to the archived page.
The 800M figure sat unchanged for 12 months (May 2020–Apr 2021) while TikTok roughly doubled, the clearest case of a stale number masquerading as current.

FAQ #
How many people actually use TikTok?
It depends who you ask, and on what "use" means. See the reconciliation above for every published figure, its definition, and its date.
Why do TikTok user numbers vary so much between sources?
Different definitions (ad reach vs. modelled MAU vs. estimate), ad reach exceeding 100% of a population, and most pages recycling each other's stale numbers instead of rechecking the source.
How much time do people spend on TikTok?
DataReportal's latest figure is roughly 1 hour 55 minutes a day per active user. eMarketer puts US adults overall at 52 to 57 minutes a day. These aren't directly comparable, different populations and methodologies.
How much is TikTok Shop worth?
$50.3B globally in H1 2026, up 92% year on year. GMV measures goods sold through the platform, not TikTok's own revenue.
